Summit with the Flock Coming to Windsor!
In a move that has raised eyebrows and feathers alike, Windsor City Councilor Kieran McKenzie has proposed an unconventional solution to the city’s persistent Canada geese problem: a summit with the geese themselves.
Faced with mounting complaints from residents about the increasing presence of Canada geese in public parks and waterfront areas, McKenzie took to social media to announce his audacious plan. In a tweet that puzzled as many as it intrigued, McKenzie wrote, “Enough with the honking and pooping! It’s time to sit down and hash things out like civilized birds. #GeeseSummit2024.”
The proposed summit, scheduled for mid-April at the city’s waterfront pavilion, would bring together city officials, wildlife experts, and a delegation of Canada geese to discuss potential solutions to the ongoing conflict. McKenzie, donning a Canada Goose costume and a determined expression, outlined his vision for the summit in a recent press conference.
“We’ve tried everything from scare tactics to relocation programs, but nothing seems to work,” McKenzie lamented. “It’s time to try a different approach: direct communication. Who knows? Maybe the geese just want to be heard.” Reaction to McKenzie’s proposal has been mixed, with some residents applauding his creativity and willingness to think outside the box, while others remain skeptical of the feasibility of negotiating with geese. “I admire Councilor McKenzie’s optimism, but I’m not sure the geese will be interested in diplomatic talks,” remarked local resident Mark Davies, shaking his head in disbelief.
Undeterred by the skeptics, McKenzie remains optimistic about the potential of the summit to yield tangible results. “We owe it to our community to explore every possible avenue for resolving this issue,” he asserted. “Even if that means sitting down at the negotiating table with a flock of geese.”
As preparations for the summit continue, one thing is certain: Windsor’s Canada geese problem has officially entered uncharted territory, with the fate of the city hanging in the balance. Stay tuned for updates on the highly anticipated #GeeseSummit2024 and whether McKenzie’s bold gambit will pay off or fizzle out like a damp goose feather. The summit is scheduled for Wednesday April 14th at 10:00 am at the Bert Weeks Memorial Park.
